1 Corinthians 9:24-27 & 1 Timothy 6:12

What does it mean to be determined?

When you think about the word determined, what comes to mind? Perhaps to continue without fail; or maybe even refusal to give up, no matter the challenges a person may have to face.

When I think about the word determined, Layla- the main character of the book My Grace is Sufficient, often comes to my mind. Layla showed determination when she fought through every struggle that she was faced with. She showed determination when she refused to give up because her circumstances were not favorable. Although at times, she experienced low moments in her life, she refused to stay in a place of failure and defeat. Every time she was knocked down, she got back up again and kept going. She was determined to make it through.

YOU CAN MAKE IT!

Just like Layla, YOU can make it! No matter what the current situation is; with God’s help, you can make it!

You may have to cry along the way…but YOU CAN MAKE IT!

You may have to give up some things…but YOU CAN MAKE IT!

You may have to separate from some of your closest friends and family members….but YOU CAN MAKE IT!

When it’s all said and done, you may find that everyone you thought you could depend on has turned their back and left you hanging, but again I say… YOU CAN MAKE IT! There is no situation that is too much for our God, and there is nothing going on with you that God is not already aware AND in full control of.

Yes, He allows things to happen in our lives that are not necessarily events our flesh takes pleasure in, but rather things that bring us hurt and pain.

Many people get stuck right there!

Difficult Being Determined

If it’s not an enjoyable walk in the park, we so often walk away. If it’s not something that makes us feel good, we’re quick to back away, about face, and take an entirely different route- seeking comfort.

The problem is; that different route we have chosen is not the route that God has given to us. And it’s not the route that is going to get us where God has already predestined us to go!

1 Timothy 6:12 says But you, Timothy, man of God: Run for your life from all this. Pursue a righteous life—a life of wonder, faith, love, steadiness, courtesy. Run hard and fast in the faith. Seize the eternal life, the life you were called to, the life you so fervently embraced in the presence of so many witnesses.

Think about it; nobody wants to drive around in the same circle year after year never being able to reach a destination. It may sound crazy to you, but that’s exactly what many people do when it comes to spiritual things. So often we wander around with no determination to fight AGAINST the devil and his tactics, but instead we work with him and constantly find ourselves in a place of defeat.

Determined To Be Determined!

Be determined to fight for what God has given you! Be determined to fight for what God has promised you! Be determined to fight for your life.

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 (MSG) says You’ve all been to the stadium and seen the athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win. All good athletes train hard. They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. You’re after one that’s gold eternally. I don’t know about you, but I’m running hard for the finish line. I’m giving it everything I’ve got. No sloppy living for me! I’m staying alert and in top condition. I’m not going to get caught napping, telling everyone else all about it and then missing out myself.

Seek the Lord for direction, pray, fast, find yourself in The Word of God continuously. Not just reading but internalizing every word so that when the enemy comes, you’ll have The Word of God already in you and ready to use as your weapon. With God on your side, you will win EVERY time!
